Donchevi Kitchen & Bar: a taste of the Balkans in the heart of Worthing
For six years, this family-run Bulgarian and Balkan restaurant brought the warmth, flavour and hospitality of home to Worthing town centre — with First Essential as the team behind its brand, website and presence.

Homemade Balkan cooking in the heart of Worthing
Montague Place sits right in the middle of Worthing town centre, and it was here, at number 10, that Donchevi Kitchen & Bar welcomed its guests. Led by Doncho Donchev, it was a family-run Bulgarian restaurant with Balkan touches, built to carry the spirit of Bulgarian life, culture and tradition — and to give the town a genuinely warm, hospitable place to eat.
Every plate told that story: kebapche and kufteta from the grill, slow-cooked kavarma, shopska salad, moussaka, and parlenka with Bulgarian cheese, finished with a glass of rakia. Bulgarian food is fresh, hearty and generous, and Donchevi Kitchen & Bar served it in an authentic Balkan interior that regulars quickly came to treat as a second home. When Donchevi Kitchen & Bar first opened, local press welcomed it as a fresh taste of the Balkans for the town.
Great food needed the right foundations around it
A great menu is only half the story. To thrive on a busy town-centre high street, an independent restaurant has to be found online, understood at a glance, and chosen ahead of everywhere else nearby. Donchevi needed a brand that would stand up on the street and on a phone screen, a website that made the menu and the family’s story easy to find, and a social presence that could carry the flavour of the food to new diners across Worthing.
Most of all, the family wanted to spend their time cooking and looking after guests — not juggling a web developer, a designer, a photographer and a social media agency. They came to First Essential for one team that could take ownership of the whole picture.
A brand and marketing partnership with Donchevi Kitchen & Bar
From the name above the door to the photos on the menu, First Essential looked after how Donchevi was seen — so the family could concentrate on the cooking.
Brand identity & design
We shaped a warm, distinctive identity rooted in Bulgarian heritage — the logo, the “Welcome to the Balkans” look, menus and print — so Donchevi Kitchen & Bar felt unmistakably itself, on the street and on screen.
Website & web design
We built donchevi.co.uk to put the menu and the family’s story front and centre — clean, welcoming and easy to browse, so first-time visitors could see exactly what made the place special.
Food & interior photography
Great Balkan food deserves to be seen. We captured the dishes and the dining room in professional photography that made mouths water and gave every page, post and listing something beautiful to show.
Social media
We kept Donchevi’s social channels alive with content that did the food justice — the plates, the atmosphere and the Balkan story — building a genuine local following rather than just chasing numbers.
Local SEO & Google Business Profile
We made sure diners searching for a Bulgarian or Balkan restaurant in Worthing found Donchevi Kitchen & Bar, with a polished Google Business Profile and the local visibility a town-centre restaurant lives on.
Reviews & reputation
We helped happy guests leave the reviews that matter, supporting a strong reputation and a 4.7★ Google rating that reassured new diners before they ever walked through the door.

A Worthing favourite, with a brand and presence to match its food
Donchevi Kitchen & Bar grew into a genuine town-centre destination. The brand the family had imagined was visible on the high street, across social media and on every page of the website. New diners could find the restaurant, understand what it offered and book a table without friction — and once they had tasted the food, many became regulars.
The proof showed up where it counts: a loyal local following and a 4.7★ Google rating, with review after review calling it the best Bulgarian food outside Bulgaria. With the brand, website and social presence handled by one team, the family could pour their energy into what they did best — cooking, and looking after their guests.
“The best Bulgarian meal I’ve had outside of Bulgaria — the kufteta, shopska salad, moussaka and parlenka with Bulgarian cheese were authentic and delicious.”— Verified customer review
Thank you, Worthing
In 2025, after six years of full tables and countless plates of Balkan food, Donchevi Kitchen & Bar closed its doors. In the family’s own words: “After six unforgettable years filled with laughter, full tables, clinking glasses and countless plates of delicious Balkan food, the time has come for us to close our doors.”
It was a true labour of love, and we were proud to work alongside a business that brought so much warmth — and so much flavour — to Worthing town centre. As the family put it: “Though this chapter is closing, our passion for Balkan cuisine and culture lives on.”
