The organisation

A charity built on the generosity of Bulgarians who left, but never forgot

Angels for Bulgaria, known in Bulgarian as Ангели за България, is a UK-registered charity (number 1194065) based in Atherton, Greater Manchester. Founded in 2020 by members of the Bulgarian community living in the United Kingdom, it exists for a single purpose: to connect the generosity of Bulgarians abroad with the urgent needs of vulnerable people back home.

The charity ships clothing, food, and medical equipment to Bulgaria, and organises free medical outreach programmes in rural and remote communities, including villages in the Vidin region in the country's north-west, where access to healthcare can be severely limited. Its work spans support for the elderly, disabled people, families living in poverty, and communities that are simply too far from the services most people take for granted.

Website visibility

A website that earns the trust of every visitor from the first click

For a charity that relies on donors and volunteers finding it online, how the website looks and performs is not a minor detail. First Essential brought professional web expertise to Angels for Bulgaria so their digital front door matched the seriousness of their mission.

The challenge

Extraordinary work, held back by an ordinary online presence

When Angels for Bulgaria came to us, the charity was already doing remarkable things on the ground. The problem was that the world could not easily see it. Their online presence did not reflect the scale or seriousness of the work they were doing, and for a charity that depends on the goodwill of donors and volunteers from across the Bulgarian diaspora, that gap matters enormously.

Charities running on volunteer power rarely have the budget or bandwidth to prioritise their branding and digital visibility. Their energy goes where it should, into the aid runs, the fundraising, the coordination, and the communities they serve. But that means the website, the visual identity, and the findability online can drift behind the ambition of the mission. For Angels for Bulgaria, that is exactly where First Essential stepped in.

Website visibility

We worked to improve how Angels for Bulgaria appears online, so that donors, volunteers, and supporters across the UK and beyond can find the charity, understand its mission quickly, and feel confident in the organisation they are backing.

Branding

We helped strengthen the visual identity that Angels for Bulgaria presents to the world. A charity doing serious, compassionate work deserves a presence that reflects it, one that communicates trust, warmth, and purpose from the very first impression.

Supported free of charge

Every hour of work First Essential put into this engagement was provided at no cost to the charity. This is part of how we give back to causes that matter in the communities our team and clients are part of.

The journey

One team, joining up the pieces, so the charity could focus on its work

The first thing we did was take a clear-eyed look at how Angels for Bulgaria showed up online. Not just their website, but the broader picture: what a supporter would see when they searched for the charity, what impression the branding made on first contact, and whether the visual language matched the gravity and warmth of the mission itself.

From there, we worked to close those gaps. On the visibility side, that meant making sure the charity's web presence was set up in a way that search engines could properly understand and index, so that when someone in the UK Bulgarian community goes looking for a cause to support or a place to donate goods, Angels for Bulgaria appears with confidence. On the branding side, it meant bringing more consistency and intention to the visual identity, giving the charity a look that feels cohesive across its communications and tells the right story at a glance.

None of this needed to be complicated. The charity's mission is the story. Our job was simply to make sure the digital side of things did not get in the way of telling it.

A charity that runs free medical clinics in remote Bulgarian villages and ships aid across Europe deserves an online presence that earns the trust of every person who encounters it. That is what we set out to build.
Branding and identity

Visual identity that communicates trust, warmth, and purpose

Consistent branding is what turns a first visit into a confident donation or a volunteer sign-up. We brought clarity and intention to Angels for Bulgaria's visual presence so supporters across the UK Bulgarian diaspora arrive with the right expectations and the confidence to act.

First Essential digital tools and creative design capability used to support charity branding and communications
The result

A charity with a cleaner, more confident presence to match the scale of its work

Angels for Bulgaria does remarkable things on a volunteer-run budget. Clothing, food, and medical equipment travelling across Europe to reach the people who need them. Free medical examinations being carried out in communities in the Vidin region where a doctor's visit is not something that simply happens. These are not small achievements, and they deserve to be seen.

The work we did was modest in scope by design. We were not here to change the charity or take it over. We were here to sharpen what was already there. After our involvement, the charity's online presence is cleaner, more findable, and more consistent, a better reflection of the people who run it and the communities it serves. The Bulgarian diaspora in the UK has a clearer window into the charity's work, and supporters who discover Angels for Bulgaria for the first time arrive with the right expectations.

Most importantly, the charity team can focus on the aid work rather than worrying about whether their digital presence is letting them down.

First Essential technology helping community organisations and businesses run smarter
Why we do this

Giving back is part of how we work, not an afterthought

First Essential is a UK business technology partner. We help businesses take payments, sell more, and run smarter. But we are also a team with roots in multiple communities, including the Bulgarian community in the UK, and we believe that the skills and tools we use every day for our commercial clients can do real good when directed at causes that deserve them.

Angels for Bulgaria is one of those causes. The charity was incorporated in 2020 and has been building quietly and steadily, driven entirely by volunteers who give their time and energy because they care. Supporting them with website visibility and branding was one of the most straightforward decisions we have made. There was no pitch, no contract, and no invoice. Just a team that wanted to help, and a charity that needed it.

If you run a UK business and want to work with a team that thinks about more than the bottom line, we would love to hear from you. And if you are looking for a cause worth supporting, Angels for Bulgaria is worth a look.
